Throughout my PhD I was involved with the ADAPT (NSERC Discovery Frontiers Arctic Development and Adaptation to Permafrost in Transition) student organization. As an executive member of this group I worked closely with early career scientists from a number of international organizations (i.e., PAGE21, PYRN, APECS) which resulted in a recently funded IPA Action Group titled “A Frozen-Ground Cartoon”. This is a 100% outreach-related product targeted at the general public with a focus on educating youth, adults and teachers on permafrost science. We are currently starting year two of the project with seven completed cartoons that showcase the diversity of permafrost research activities including collaborations with people in the north. We are now in the process of translating the materials into a number of different languages including Inuktitut, Inuvialuktun, French, German for national and international distribution.
The cartoons are now available online at frozengroundcartoon.com!
